Stuck in a 49 Mile Long Traffic Jam!
Satellite Navigation company TomTom have reported that data analysed from their Traffic Centre has revealed that the “good old” M25 was responsible for five of the ten worst traffic jams during July 2011.
The worst single tailback was on Friday 29th July at 5.45pm on the M25 and stretched from junction 19 which is near Watford, right round to junction 5 at Sevenoaks, a total distance of 49 miles. We are talking one line of stationary traffic here!
The M25 had another little gift for us as on both Friday 8th July and Friday 22nd July the section between junction 8 at Reigate and junction 16 (the M40 interchange) saw jams of 27.5 miles and 26 miles respectively.
Worst non-motorway jam was on Sunday 3rd July at the A64 Eastfield towards the A1237 interchange at York, with 30 miles of queues and rated as the second worst jam or tailback of the month.
As for the worst moment of the month in terms of tailbacks & jams, well it was Friday 8th July at 3.58pm when there were 1027 miles of jams across the country. The average total jam length at any one time in July (we are talking average don’t forget) was 148 miles.
I guess the message in this is definitely avoid the M25 and try to avoid travelling on a Friday.
